Workshops
Think of a workshop as a conversation starter. Creating inclusive and equitable environments is not something that can happen by attending one workshop. Equity and inclusion requires ongoing dialogue, flexibility, and personal and organizational commitment. All workshops are customizable to meet your professional and/or organizational needs.
Example introductory workshops titles and topics are listed below. Most workshops are 60-75 minutes, including time for Q & A and can be delivered remotely via Zoom or in person.
Example Workshops:
Beyond the Buzz: Why Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Matters
The primary objective of this introductory workshop is to provide an overview of the what, so what, and now what of diversity, equity, and inclusion work.
Moving from Tolerance to Affirmation: Being an LGBTQIA+ Ally
This workshop provides a foundational discussion of sexual orientation and gender as social constructs and the ways we can go beyond tolerance toward a culture of acceptance and inclusion. Faith communities may find this workshop to be especially helpful in fostering inclusive spaces for LGBTQIA+ spirituality-seekers.
White and Anti-Racist
Wondering where and how to be an active (white) anti-racist ally? Start here.
Self-Care and Community-Care in Justice Work
Social justice activism and advocacy requires stamina and focus. The work we can produce in our communities is only possible if we also dedicate time to nourish our bodies and mind. This workshop can be scaffolded with a personalized self-care or community-care program to cultivate practices of mindfulness, peace, and joy.
Critical Race Theory: What it is and What it isn't
Critical Race Theory (CRT) has taken center stage in political discourse and is often at the center for proposed legislation to restrict what is taught in the classroom. Yet, CRT is often misunderstood and misrepresented. This introductory workshop provides a historical overview of CRT and challenges the divisive (and often incorrect) rhetoric that has been used to criticize it.
The list above is only a snapshot of possible offerings and represents the most popular topics I experience in my own daily life. Please reach out if there is a different topic in which you're interested.
